Climate Café Hosts Presentation on Ecopsychology

Post Oil Solutions Climate Café will host Dave Cohen, an integrative psychotherapist in Brattleboro, who will give an exciting and informative presentation on “Ecopsychology, the Human Psyche with the Earth in Mind (& Body),” on Tuesday, January 23, 6:00 PM at Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro.

As always, the event is free, and light refreshments will be available.

Regardless of who we think we are at this moment, in essence we're all ancestors of peoples and cultures that once had a profound kinship with the more-than-human world.  However, right now we are living in a time of unspeakable ecological disconnection and disruption. Perhaps now more than ever, it's time to more deeply search for who we are in relationship to the Earth and all its inhabitants.

Come explore a broad overview of the fundamental ingredients that make up the vital work of ecopsychology, an approach that deeply considers us – our minds, bodies, and senses – and our felt relationships to the ecological and social worlds we inhabit, as well as the ways in which the industrial worldview is redefining who we are and perhaps even hacking into our status as human beings.

 We'll be asking many questions...

Should the more-than-human world have rights - rivers, mountains, a trees, animals? If so, what does that mean for us? How do we hold the ecological losses we are witnessing? Where do these losses turn up in us emotionally and behaviorally? Why is psychology and most forms of therapy virtually mute about the ecological realities we face? How can we stay grounded enough in this turbulence to bring our own unique skills and medicine to the world to make the seemingly impossible happen?

Come bring yourself, your body and your ecological and social intelligence. Be prepared for a radical exploration and discussion.

Dave Cohen is an integrative psychotherapist in Brattleboro, VT (, specializing in approaches in mind/body modalities and ecopsychology. He  is also the founder and director of VBike (, an advocacy group dedicated to promoting new bicycle technologies and designs to help inspire a shift in Vermont's bike culture towards a far more transportation-oriented future.

The Climate Café is a project of Post Oil Solutions that convenes the 4th Tuesday of most months .
