DESCRIPTION:Over 90 poems by area poets – as well as from poets throughout Vermont and the tri-state region – will be going up in downtown Brattleboro\, including in some Canal Street locations. The poems will be displayed in shops and other locations throughout April\, to celebrate National Poetry Month\, and be up for the first Gallery Walk of the season on Friday\, May 1st. \nFor this April 18th event\, a self-selected group of about fifteen poets from PAT will give short readings\, that include their posted poems.  All are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:The Sci-Fi Reading Group will meet in the Quiet Reading Room from 7:00pm – 8:30pm to discuss A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker! \nIn the Before\, when the government didn’t prohibit large public gatherings\, Luce Cannon was on top of the world. One of her songs had just taken off and she was on her way to becoming a star. Now\, in the After\, terror attacks and deadly viruses have led the government to ban concerts\, and Luce’s connection to the world—her music\, her purpose—is closed off forever. She does what she has to do: she performs in illegal concerts to a small but passionate community\, always evading the law. \nRosemary Laws barely remembers the Before times. She spends her days in Hoodspace\, helping customers order all of their goods online for drone delivery—no physical contact with humans needed. By lucky chance\, she finds a new job and a new calling: discover amazing musicians and bring their concerts to everyone via virtual reality. The only catch is that she’ll have to do something she’s never done before and go out in public. Find the illegal concerts and bring musicians into the limelight they deserve. But when she sees how the world could actually be\, that won’t be enough. \nThe Sci-Fi Reading Group meets the third Monday of every month and is open to curious minds\, whether or not they’ve read this month’s selection.

Brooks Memorial Library is honored to host this book launch event. All are welcome! \n——— \nPeter Gould founded (in 1998) and still directs the “Get Thee to the Funnery” youth Shakespeare camp in the Northeast Kingdom. DESCRIPTION:Come and connect with others who are interested in working on plans to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026. \nThis monthly meeting space on the 4th Wednesdays is dedicated for those who would like the opportunity to connect\, collaborate\, and work on projects that align with Vermont’s 250th Anniversary Commission’s mission to “…inspire all Vermonters to learn from the history\, legacy\, and context of the past to build strong Vermont communities for the future.” \nThe space is being hosted by Brooks Memorial Library\, Vermont Independent Media (The Commons) and Windham World Affairs Council\, with support from the Vermont Humanities Council. We are already working together on a collaboration entitled\, ‘Examining American Identity and Leadership in a Changing World – and have joined America 250\, a national initiative asking communities to plan for how to commemorate the 250th year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Its mission is to provide opportunities for all Americans to pause and reflect on our nation’s past & present\, honor the contributions of all Americans\, and look to the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.

DESCRIPTION:Strengthen balance and build social connection\, all while playing and connecting to your inner child with SilverCircus by the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA). These circus classes are designed for older adults and are welcome to all mobility and cognitive levels. We will work with each student where they are at\, while fostering a supportive and playful group dynamic. Activities will challenge the brain and the body\, and will be scaled up and down to be the perfect challenge for each participant.\nIt is not too late to join the circus! Join us at Brattleboro Memorial Library at 11am on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in January through May (01/10\, 01/24\, 02/14\, 02/28\, 03/14\, 03/28\, 04/11\, 04/25\, 05/09\, and 05/23).
