DESCRIPTION:The Sci-Fi Reading Group will meet in the Quiet Reading Room from 7:00pm – 8:30pm to discuss The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown! \nAs acting captain of the starship Calypso\, Jacklyn Albright is responsible for keeping the last of humanity alive as they limp back to Earth from their forebears’ failed colony on a distant planet. Faced with constant threats of starvation and destruction in the treacherous minefield of interstellar space\, Jacklyn’s crew has reached their breaking point. As unrest begins to spread throughout the ship’s Wards\, a new threat emerges\, picking off crew members in grim\, bloody fashion. Jacklyn and her team must hunt down the ship’s unknown intruder if they have any hope of making it back to their solar system alive. \nThe Sci-Fi Reading Group meets the third Monday of every month and is open to curious minds\, whether or not they’ve read this month’s selection.

DESCRIPTION:This offering will be led by Bhante Rathana\, a Buddhist monk originally from Sri Lanka and currently residing at Serenity Central of New England in Jacksonville\, Vermont. He has been dedicated to the path of Dhamma since the age of 13\, and his journey includes over two decades of monastic training\, study\, and teaching in Sri Lanka and the United States. \nAt these sessions\, Bhante will be offering practical guidance in breathing meditation (ānāpānasati)\, loving-kindness meditation (mettā bhāvanā)\, and walking meditation\, rooted in the original teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Pāli Canon. His approach draws directly from early Buddhist texts\, focusing on mindfulness\, compassion\, and inner peace. \nWith gentle\, step-by-step instruction\, Bhante aims to help participants develop calm\, clarity\, and deeper awareness—whether you are new to meditation or wish to strengthen your practice.
