The January meeting was cancelled\, and reading/discussion was deferred due to inclement weather and illness of several members. \n\n\nSons and Lovers is one of the most perceptive novels on the dialectical relationship between mothers and sons (and daughters\, too)! His first major novel\, this work closely parallels Lawrence’s own life. \n—————————————————————– \n\n\nFor Mon. March 2nd\, the group will be discussing Dostoyevsky’s THE DEVILS (a.k.a. The DAEMONS or THE POSSESSED)\, one of his most complicated\, and messy\, novels. How can I describe it? DESCRIPTION:Come and connect with others who are interested in working on plans to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026. \nThis monthly meeting space on the 4th Wednesdays is dedicated for those who would like the opportunity to connect\, collaborate\, and work on projects that align with Vermont’s 250th Anniversary Commission’s mission to “…inspire all Vermonters to learn from the history\, legacy\, and context of the past to build strong Vermont communities for the future.” \nThe space is being hosted by Brooks Memorial Library\, Vermont Independent Media (The Commons) and Windham World Affairs Council\, with support from the Vermont Humanities Council. We are already working together on a collaboration entitled\, ‘Examining American Identity and Leadership in a Changing World – and have joined America 250\, a national initiative asking communities to plan for how to commemorate the 250th year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Its mission is to provide opportunities for all Americans to pause and reflect on our nation’s past & present\, honor the contributions of all Americans\, and look to the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.

DESCRIPTION:The Sci-Fi Reading Group will meet in the Quiet Reading Room from 7:00pm – 8:30pm to discuss Metallic Realms by Lincoln Michel! \nPerennially single\, socially awkward\, and drowning in debt\, Michael Lincoln finds his life has turned out nothing like the intergalactic lives of the pulp heroes of his youth. But these are pedestrian concerns—he has a higher calling\, and that is to preserve for all posterity the greatest series in the history of the written word: The Star Rot Chronicles. Written collectively by Michael’s best (and perhaps only) friend Taras K. Castle and his misfit science fiction writing group\, the Orb 4\, the stories follow Captain Baldwin and his fearless crew on their mind-bending adventures across the Metallic Realms\, from solar whales swallowing suns at the edge of spacetime to extraterrestrial romances and interstellar wars. These masterpieces have gone tragically unpublished—until now. But the most urgent story Michael must tell takes place in the more intimate (if no less dramatic) confines of literary Brooklyn. Behind the greatest universe ever created\, there are the all-too-mortal people who wrote it. As Michael chronicles the personal melodramas of the Orb 4 as well as the fun house reflections in their fiction\, the line between real and unreal becomes dangerously thin\, and the true reasons for the group’s fallout begin to emerge. As he labors away in hiding\, Michael has just one mission: to bring the Metallic Realms to the world.
