DESCRIPTION:This is the 150th Anniversary of The Publication of “Edwin Drood\, Complete” T.P. James\, Brattleboro’s own spiritualist rogue who claimed he was channeling Dickens’ ghost to finish the novel\, The Mystery of Edwin Drood\, which the famous English author had left uncompleted. James handwrote the novel and sold thousands of copies of his version. \nWe believe that whether you can channel a ghost to help you write your story or not\, you can write a great story. \nCharles Dickens will be the judge of the story\, and this is what he is looking for; He wants a tale about a ghost\, but he does not want a horror story ending in madness\, death or emotional or physical mayhem. He wants a story with a supernatural encounter with a spirit\, and he wants a character to come to some new realization\, change of plan\, or any other change\, due to this experience. Good writing matters\, but the winner will have a chance to edit the story before we share it with the community. \nThis is a University of Brattleboro event co-sponsored by Brooks Memorial Library\, Everyone’s Books\, Write Action and Book Lovers Used Books.

Written from the heart\, McCloskey’s personal narrative conveys hope and resilience as she prevails through her grief with no regrets about her parenting. \nThese Dreams of You is a moving story that has been called sad and devastating but also full of truth and love and grace. While McCloskey’s story offers an unvarnished account of her challenges in raising her extraordinary daughter\, it also conveys the depth of love she felt for her. Interspersed throughout the narrative are several lyrical letters written by mother to daughter since the daughter’s death. \nMcCloskey will read from her book and talk about the rewards and challenges in writing an honest and unflinching story laden with emotional content. DESCRIPTION:Do you ever experience frustration and feel you are losing your compassion for those struggling with addiction? You are not alone. As part of their continued work to respond to the ongoing crisis of substance use disorder\, the Community Substance Use Response (CSUR) is hosting a free conversation on Compassion Fatigue with Don Cuerdon\, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Brattleboro\, Vermont.  Cuerdon specializes in memory reconsolidation therapy for reducing the emotional charge behind the traumatic stress that drives many mental health disorders\, including substance use disorders\, anxiety\, depression and\, of course\, PTSD. \nThis workshop will address ways to set boundaries\, develop coping mechanisms\, and seek support when needed. By working together\, CSUR believes we can reduce compassion fatigue\, addiction\, and stigma and create a more compassionate and supportive society for everyone. \nSnacks will be provided.
