Free and open to the public. \nThis program is supported by a Brattleboro Town Arts Fund grant – and is presented by Out in the Open\, Everyone’s Books\, & Brooks Memorial Library.\n————— \nNico Amador is a writer and educator from San Diego\, currently based in Vermont and Provincetown. Informed by his involvement in movements for social change\, his poetry is interested in acts of radical imagination\, place\, and belonging.  \nCameron Awkward-Rich is a poet\, professor\, and the author of three poetry collections\, including An Optimism— “a book that un-mutes possibility [and] re-imagines time\,” winner of the 2026 Massachusetts Book Award. His latest project\, Time Also Will Make It Interesting\, is an edited\,”queerly messy” selection of the journals of writer/painter/activist Red Jordan Arobateau\, a crucial yet undersung figure in San Francisco trans queer cultures. \nStephanie Burt is a poet\, literary critic\, professor\, and author of 14 books\, including We Are Mermaids—a poetry collection “living in the trans present and future.” Burt’s groundbreaking anthology Super Gay Poems: LGBTQIA+ Poetry After Stonewall won the 2025 New England Book award and has been acclaimed as “not just a guide to queer poetry\, but a new way of thinking about beauty\, passion\, and the passage of time.

SUMMARY:Ahead of the Curb: Minimizing Household Waste to Maximize Community Composting
DESCRIPTION:Join Alex Lacy\, outreach coordinator for WSWMD\, and Stephen Dotson\, sustainability coordinator for the town of Brattleboro\, on Monday\, November 9th from 4:30-6 pm – and on Monday November 16th from 6-7:30 pm:\n\n\nGather round to receive updates and important information about the Brattleboro curbside compost program. Alex Lacy\, outreach coordinator at WSWMD\, and Stephen Dotson\, sustainability coordinator with the town of Brattleboro\, will be present to run down the basics of the service\, explain what changes have been made and why\, and to demonstrate how the town’s cooperation is helping our local economy as well as support farmers and gardeners alike. Municipal composting is a welcome service in a town where not everyone is composting in their backyard\, not to mention in a state that has mandated a ban on food scraps in the landfill. Composting not only avoids pollution of methane into our atmosphere\, it results in a healthy additive to the soil when used as intended. Appropriate use of quality compost has the potential to increase garden yields and help plants to fight off disease. Quality compost comes from quality inputs into the compost. This is a chance to bring your questions and concerns over what is and what is not acceptable in your curbside bin to an open discussion following a brief presentation.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide and a galaxy-full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed\, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian\, Zaphod’s girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan)\, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin\, a paranoid\, brilliant\, and chronically depressed robot; Veet Voojagig\, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years. \nWhere are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars.
