SUMMARY:Sci-Fi Reading Group September Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Come discover and discuss great science fiction with the Sci-Fi Reading Group!\nSeptember’s Book will be Artificial Condition by Martha Wells\, the follow-up to the hugely popular All Systems Red \nBook Synopsis via marthawells.com: \n“It has a dark past — one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself “Murderbot.” But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title\, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don’t want to know what the “A” stands for)\, Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.\nWhat it discovers will forever change the way it thinks… ” \nThe book is available in physical and digital format from the library and all ages are welcome to attend\, even if they haven’t read the book! We are also open to suggestions for other great sci-fi titles to read at future meet-ups. \nThe Sci-Fi Reading Group meets on the third Monday of every month from 7-8:30pm in the Quiet Reading Room at the library.

SUMMARY:Sci-fi Reading Group: "All Systems Red"
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow sci-fi lovers for the Brooks Memorial Library Sci-Fi Reading Group! The group will be diving into some of the best new books the genre has to offer! \nWe will be kicking things off on Monday\, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Brooks Memorial Library. We will be discussing “All Systems Red” by Martha Wells\, the first novella in her Murderbot Diaries series. A synopsis of the novella is as follows: \n In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future\, a self-aware Security Unit hacks its own governor module while shadowing a team of scientists conducting surface tests on a distant planet. Disgusted by the humans\, it could go on a rampage and live up to its self-assigned moniker\, “Murderbot”\, but it would honestly rather be binge watching TV on a loop. All Murderbot wants is to get through the day. That is\, until something else threatens to kill the humans. \nBeginning in September\, meetings will be held on the third Monday of every month. \nFor more updates from Brooks Memorial Library\, visit brookslibraryvt.org\, where you can sign up for the library newsletter. Follow the library on Facebook at @BrooksMemorialLibrary and the Children’s Room at @BrooksMemorialLibraryCR. Brooks Memorial Library is located at 224 Main St.\, Brattleboro\, VT 05301. The library is open Mon-Weds: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Thurs-Fri: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  The venue is accessible to people in wheelchairs.
