SUMMARY:Vermont Humanities Snapshot event: Classic Films of the 50's
DESCRIPTION:The 1950s were a fascinating time for Hollywood films. Silent era film directors were in their prime\, and independent films were gaining a foothold. Exciting new stars such as Marlon Brando and Audrey Hepburn were making their mark while vital issues of the time such as juvenile delinquency\, conformity\, and racial attitudes were addressed\, however timidly\, while the shadow of the Hollywood blacklist loomed. Rick Winston will show clips from several films of various genres from that era and discuss their significance. \nIf you cannot join in person\, be sure to register to receive the livestream link here. \nAbout the Presenter\n  \nFrom 1972 to 1980\, Rick ran the Lightning Ridge Film Society in Montpelier. He owned and managed the Savoy Theater from its founding in 1981 until 2009. From 1999 to 2012\, he was Programming Director of the Green Mountain Film Festival. He has presented programs on film history throughout Vermont\, and is author of Save Me a Seat!: A Life With Movies. \nSponsored by Vermont Humanities and the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library
