Brattleboro 250 Planning Sessions

The once a month 250th community planning group at Brooks Memorial Library welcome special guest and local history buff, Jonah Spivak to speak about the 250th on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 PM. Spivak is one of fourteen commissioners appointed by Governor Scott to work on the VT 250th Anniversary Commission. He is also chair of the Bennington County Regional 250th Planning Committee which includes towns and villages throughout Bennington County and nearby New York.
All are invited to attend. Spivak will talk about “Why Commemorate” and share stories of celebrations being planned around Vermont, along with showing a short video of Bennington’s work to date and plans going forward. He’s eager to meet and answer questions and discuss ideas and plans for Brattleboro. He has been working on 250th related planning since 2017 and lobbied for the creation of a VT 250th Anniversary Commission which was established by Executive Order in 2020.
Events around the 250th anniversary will be taking place all across the country. How Vermont and specifically the Brattleboro area celebrates is being discussed in the monthly brainstorming meetings on the fourth Wednesdays at 6:00 PM in the community room at Brooks Memorial Library. All are invited to come and connect with others who are interested in working on plans to commemorate Brattleboro’s 250th anniversary.
The space is being hosted by Brooks Memorial Library, Vermont Independent Media (The Commons & Deerfield Valley News) and Windham World Affairs Council, with support from the Vermont Humanities Council.
