Freedom To Be: Queer Community Crafting

October 21, 2024 @ 6:00 pm

Calling all LGBTQ+ families, adults, and youth!

Join the ACLU of Vermont, Out in the Open, and Brooks Memorial Public Library on Monday October 21st for an evening of queer community crafting!

Folks are welcome to come and explore what freedom, autonomy, and joy mean to them through hanging out and making art. This collaborative project, made up of a series of quilt-like panels, acts as a vessel to uplift the voices of queer and trans Vermonters. Attendees can to contribute to a group panel, create their own individual panel, or simply craft in a way that feels best to them.

Snacks & supplies will be provided and all ages are welcome! Stop by or join us for the entire time- we’d love to see you!

This queer community craft is a part of a national ACLU campaign which centers the voices of queer and trans people in America. It will culminate in the installation of a monument in Washington D.C. in the spring of 2025. The installation will be comprised of hundreds of quilt-like panels from across the country, including those created right here in Brattleboro! This campaign acts as a reminder of the hope and possibility that exists when people have the freedom to be themselves.
