Brattleboro Stamp Club 90th Anniversary Celebration

The Brattleboro Stamp Club will be celebrating its 90th Anniversary on Monday, 20 October, 6:00-8:30 PM in the Brooks Memorial Library Community Room. The greater Brattleboro community is invited to join for a special stamp program, refreshments, freewheeling conversation, and philatelic freebies for all ages. 90th anniversary T-shirts and a special stamped, cacheted envelope (or “cover”) will also be available for sale.
The Brattleboro Stamp Club (BSC) gathers on the 3rd Monday of each month, from 7-9 PM in the Community Room. It is the only active stamp club in the tri-state area where New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts meet; the BSC boasts nearly two dozen active members. Members are also located as far away as Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia courtesy of Zoom.
BSC members are especially proud that one of America’s first postage stamps was produced in Brattleboro in 1846. Known as a “postmaster provisional stamp”, this 5¢ stamp was produced by Brattleboro postmaster Frederick N. Palmer in a printing of 500 copies. Used to pay postage originating in Brattleboro and going anywhere in the United States before U.S. stamps began being officially issued in 1847, there are only 52 copies of this valuable stamp known to exist.
For over 50 years, the Brattleboro Stamp Club has met at Brooks Memorial Library and we are delighted to host this Anniversary Celebration. We hope that the community comes out to celebrate the history of this local group. The event promises to be a fun opportunity to learn more about BSC activities and the fascinating world of stamp hobbists.
