Community Asylum Seekers Project (CASP)

Description

The Community Asylum Seekers Project (CASP) seeks to cultivate a supportive community for asylum seekers in Southern Vermont by meeting basic needs and accompanying individuals on their journey toward building stable, self-sufficient lives in the United States.
Our program model focuses on serving asylum seekers who fall through gaps in traditional service systems. Asylum seekers are often ineligible for government benefits and must wait at least 150 days after filing an asylum application before they may apply for work authorization. During this period, individuals without family or social support are especially vulnerable.
CASP addresses these challenges through a comprehensive support model that includes:
*Connection to legal services and representation,
*Case management and referrals to community resources,
*Assistance meeting basic needs, including stipends for food, housing and other essentials until work authorization is obtained,
*Workforce development support, including assistance with work permit applications, English language acquisition, job readiness, and long-term employment planning.
