Using the phone used to be simple: if it was plugged into the phone jack in the wall, you could make and receive phone calls.  (Even if the power went out!)  These days, it all seems a lot more complicated, especially adding home and mobile internet into the mix.

How does my phone get my phone calls?  What’s Wi-Fi?  Is it the same as cellular?  What’s Wi-Fi Calling?  What about the “data” part of my cell plan?  What’s Bluetooth?  What does Airplane Mode do?

Do I have a router?  A modem? If my phone plugs into that box my internet service provider sent me, is it still a landline?

How can I get signal in the dead zone at my place?

Do I need to care about any of this?!?

What is Talking About Tech?

It’s what you want to make it!  The loose structure is an interactive gathering a bit like a book club crossed with a crafting group, with a touch of a drop-in bike repair clinic.  Each session will begin with a 30-minute guided discussion around a tech topic of interest. Then we’ll go where the conversation takes us. Maybe we’ll flow to related topics, or perhaps someone will have a question that takes us in an entirely different direction.  We’ll try to leave time for peer support, breaking into small groups or one-on-one sessions where we can help each other through the daily frustrations of our increasingly digital lives.  Bring your phone, tablet, or laptop, and something that’s been stumping you!
